South America Map Quiz: Click All 12 Countries

Click the Countries / South America / 12 countries

Learn the 12 sovereign countries of South America by clicking their visible map outlines. The compact set is ideal for practicing country shapes, shared borders, coastlines, and regional order.

A compact full-continent quiz

This quiz covers all 12 sovereign South American countries. The map runs from Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname in the north through Brazil and the inland states to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay in the south.

Brazil is the obvious reference point, while Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and the Guianas force you to read the edges more carefully.

Use Brazil to organize the continent

Brazil borders every sovereign South American country except Chile and Ecuador. That makes one question especially useful: does the target touch Brazil? Combining that fact with the Pacific and Atlantic coastlines quickly narrows most answers.

How the click map quiz works

Read the country name, find its bordered shape on the South America map, and click it. Continue through all 12 answers, using coastlines and neighboring countries whenever a shape is unfamiliar.

For a map you barely know, this is usually the easiest place to start. It also works well as a refresher after leaving a region alone for a while.

Tip: Locate Brazil first as the continent's biggest reference point, then compare the target with the countries around its border.

Common miss

A familiar neighbor can look right for half a second. Check the border before clicking.

The fastest way to learn the South America map

Memorize the Pacific coast from Colombia to Chile, then learn the northern Atlantic countries and the Southern Cone. Add Bolivia and Paraguay last as the two landlocked countries, always relating them back to Brazil.
