You can use Smurdy without an account. The site does not directly ask for your name, email address, or a profile.

Information collected automatically

When you visit Smurdy, the site's hosting and analytics providers may automatically receive technical information such as your IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, referring page, pages visited, and the date and time of a request. This information is used to deliver the site, maintain security, understand usage, and improve the quizzes.

Google Analytics

Smurdy uses Google Analytics 4 through the Google tag. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers and may process information about your device, browser, approximate location, pages viewed, and interactions with the site.

Smurdy sends quiz-related events including landing-page views, quiz starts, first answers, completions, abandonments, quiz mode and group, answer counts, accuracy, and completion time. Smurdy does not intentionally send typed quiz answers, country or state names, map-click coordinates, or a custom user ID to Google Analytics.

Browser storage

Smurdy uses local storage and session storage in your browser for limited functions such as saving Weak Spots, favorite quizzes, recently played quizzes, quiz state or preferences, and preventing the same analytics milestone from being counted repeatedly. Favorites and recent history stay in your browser and are not attached to an account. You can remove this data by clearing site data in your browser.

Feedback

The feedback link opens a Google Form operated by Google. If you choose to submit feedback, the information you enter is sent to Google and made available to the site owner. Do not include information you do not want to share. Google's own privacy policy applies to that form.

Advertising

Smurdy may use Google AdSense or other Google advertising services. When advertising is enabled, Google and other third-party vendors may place or read cookies in your browser, or use web beacons, IP addresses, and other identifiers to measure ads, prevent fraud, limit repetition, and provide personalized or non-personalized advertising.

You can manage personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Where required, Smurdy may also display a consent message that lets you choose how advertising cookies and personal data are used.

Sharing and service providers

Smurdy does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by providers that help operate the site, including GitHub Pages for hosting and Google for analytics, feedback forms, and advertising. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the site and its users.

Data retention and security

Analytics and service-provider data is retained according to the settings and policies of the applicable provider. Browser data remains on your device until it expires or you clear it. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but Smurdy limits the information it intentionally collects and does not maintain public user accounts.

Children's privacy

Smurdy is a general-audience geography site and does not knowingly request or collect personal information directly from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child submitted personal information through the feedback form, they can use the contact method below to request help removing it.

Your choices

• Block or delete cookies and site storage using your browser settings.
• Use Google's advertising controls to manage personalized ads.
• Use browser privacy features or extensions that limit analytics requests.
• Avoid submitting optional information through the feedback form.

Blocking storage or scripts may affect some site features or prevent analytics from working.

This policy may be updated when Smurdy changes its features, analytics, advertising, or service providers. The date at the top of the page will show the latest revision.
